FLASHBACK OF THE WEEK: June 1982

Yep, that's me and Melinda during 7th grade when we were in class all year together. I was so weird that if you would have told her that she would end up marrying me she would have never believed it. Anyway, we have fun talking about that year and then how we didn't have any classes together again until our Junior year of high school. I changed a little; maybe even grew up a little. Maybe not.

Coney Island

Went to Coney Island today (I took the day off work) with friends from church and we couldn't have asked for a better day both weatherwise and funwise...if that's even a word. Coney is the very little brother to King's Island and has been around since 1911 (I think). It's a good park to go to if you have younger kids because you really feel like you get your money's worth as opposed to standing in lines all day at King's Island. Granted, the rides are not as cool but the fun is still there. Melinda and I had our Junior and Senior proms at Coney's Moonlight Gardens so it is a sentimental place for us.

Father-son fishing event

Sunday John and I participated in a Father-son fishing outing at the Creation Museum's pond. The weather was perfect and the lake was stocked! We had a great time with several other father-son combos. I think we pulled (and threw back) more fish that day than I have ever seen in one fishing trip! Hey, I even caught several. John nearly caught "Moby Bass" a few times but it was not to be. Argh! Fishers of fish and fishers of men all having a wonderful time. Here are a few pics.

Bandits end-of-season party

A great season calls for a great end-of-season party and that's just what the Bandits had this weekend. They finished first in both leagues they played in and even won their first post-season tournament. The 2008 Boone County Bandits can proudly say "We Are The Champions" my friend...

Bowling

On the spur of the moment we all decided to go bowling. It was Katie Grace's first time and John's 2nd or 3rd time ever. Mel had bowled a few times but it had been nearly 20 years. I used to bowl in a league growing up but haven't bowled much since. Last time I rolled was nearly 10 years ago. We all had a blast playing 2 games. John and Melinda cracked 100. By the second game I had found my rhythm and rolled a 190. The nice thing about the lanes was that it was a smoke-free bowling alley (Cherry Grove Lanes in Anderson Township).

Vacation Bible School

Every evening this week we spent at church for Vacation Bible School. Melinda and I were teachers of the little kids' class. Katie Grace was in our class in fact. John was in the big kids' class. I was also in charge of teaching the kids the song they will do tonight at the closing ceremony. It's a delightful ditty that takes us through the 7 C's of history. They are:

1. Creation - the literal creation of the universe 6,000 years ago.

2. Corruption - sin entering the world via Adam & Eve.

3. Catastrophe - the great flood that only spared Noah (and his family) and the animals on board.

4. Confusion - spreading out the people from the Tower of Babel by creating different languages.

5. Christ - God coming to earth in human form.

6. Cross - Jesus dying on the cross as payment for our sins.

7. Consumation - the fulfillment of all things.

Hummingbird

Well, after a very late arrival this Spring due to the cold temperatures, the Humming-birds arrived about a month ago and are back to their old ways. Several of them fight for position at the new feeder we put up this year that allows them to perch on it instead of having to hover while taking a drink. The males have red under their neck like the one in the photo. This one looks very majestic on his perch. The females don't have the red. For the past several years, one female in particular we have named Dolly. She's our little sweetie because she will hover at the window and look in at us or at the TV if it's on. I'll post a photo of her soon so stay tuned.
