Butterfly show

We spent the other afternoon (a cold and gloomy one outside) in the warm climate of the Krohn Conservatory where they were having their annual butterfly show. This year's theme was China. The butterflies featured were from that part of the world. They were beautiful. Mamaw & Papaw joined us in the tropical warmth of the conservatory. Photo ops abounded. I think we ended up taking nearly 100 photos! Here are a few of the good ones!

Creation Museum

I took off work yesterday afternoon and we all spent the beautiful day exploring the Creation Museum down the road. The grounds around the building are beautiful and we took advantage of the perfect weather by walking around for a while before going inside. The museum scientifically defends the intelligent designer/young earth belief that is under vicious attack by the secular humanist view that we are all accidental blobs that evolved from slugs over billions of years. Basically it boils down to the academic community attacking anything that may suggest a creator and/or moral absolutes. Creationism as a theory is actually more plausible scientifically than evolution. The museum is a fascinating place to visit if you have some time and want to hear the interpretation of our existence that has the evolutionists spewing venom. Hope is not lost at all! Our life has meaning! Come see.

Bandits hold on for the win!

The Bandits held on tonight to win a close game 8-7. They went ahead 2-0 in the 1st inning on John's 2-out, 2-run single and then built up an 8-3 lead behind Colt's 5 innings of pitching giving up no earned runs (a few errors in the field allowed the 3 runs to score). Nolan added a booming triple. Another pitcher came on in the bottom of the 6th and allowed 4 runs and then with 2 outs and the tying run at third, John came in to nail down the save with a strikeout. My heart was skipping beats all during that last at bat. What a finish! Still undefeated at 5-0. Go Bandits!

FLASHBACK OF THE WEEK: Summer 1980

I remember playing ball when I was 11 years old for the Mt. Carmel Creamy Whip. The year before we were undefeated and half-way through this season we were as well until we finally got beat by Ora and his team (The Warriors) in a high-scoring game 19-18. He stopped our late rally and for the first time in a year and a half, the Creamy Whip were whipped. After the game Coach Bublitz took us to second base and gave us a talk I won't ever forget. He asked us how it feels to lose again? We said, "awful". He quickly informed us that in the grand scheme of things this game mattered none at all and by a couple of days everyone here will have forgotten that we lost. He then told us to go home and have fun the rest of the day. We did, but then a few days later we were treated to a little reminder of the loss when the local paper (The Community Journal) ran a front-page photo of Ora throwing a pitch in his victory against us. So much for nobody remembering the loss in a few days...ha! I've known Ora since we were about 4 years old and up to that point we had always been on opposite baseball and bowling teams. The following year Ora was on our team and we went on to win a few more championships with Kevin, Kevin, Dave, and the cast of characters that made up Battelle's and Alpha Productions! Ah, the boys of summer!

More public service...with a smile!

A rare photo of me serving a happy citizen! This couple came out to another workshop we held this week in Walton. They were constructive, inquisitive, and polite. You know; the qualities that we rarely see in public meetings! Made the evening a bit more bearable for sure.

A very wet Spring

This has been a very wet Spring around here. The ground is totally saturated and rain seems to be coming in heavy doses every 2 or 3 days... On the bright side, it sure is gonna make for a green Spring!

Serving the public...

I had to work a public meeting a few days ago where we were gathering input from the citizenry on a new plan we are developing. Mostly, those meetings are spent trying to refute unfounded rumors of how we planners are trying to take over the world. This one was no different. Once people were given the chance to pick our brains they left feeling better about the process. Misinformation must cause many a sleepless night. If you are in doubt as to what's going on in any aspect of public service, call the source and talk to them. Hopefully you'll get the no-spin scoop and feel better about the situation. On a side note, I think this is the first photo of me with reading glasses on...yikes!
