Pre-season opening tournament

The 2008 Bandits kicked off their season by participating in a pre-season tournament this weekend. Problem was, the rain and cold didn't let up. 2 of the 4 games were cancelled and the other two were played in miserable cold Saturday evening temps. We weren't expected to win so we were pleasantly surprised to have hung in there so close in both games losing 6-5 and 6-4 respectively. Melinda took some photos at the first game before going home (she mentioned something about frostbite being the reason she left). The regular season kicks off this coming Friday evening; weather permitting. Here are some photos from Saturday evening.

Paperback Believer by the Monkees/Beatles

I couldn't resist...saw it on YouTube...a mash-up between 2 classic songs. "I'm A Believer" by the Monkees and "Paperback Writer" by the Beatles. Enjoy.

FLASHBACK OF THE WEEK: June 1993

Mel took this "action" photo of Trish, Amy, and me playing a pretty aggressive game of badminton at our 6-year high school reunion (our class officers weren't able to get the 5-year reunion together in time). I took the birdie and stuck it into my racket and we posed for this shot. I can't believe that it's nearly been 15 years since we did this! My how the years go by. Thankfully our true friends have stuck close by all this time. It's been a blast playin' with you guys! Now look out cuz I'm going for the smash!

Spring training for the Bandits

Practice makes perfect...well, maybe not 'perfect' but at least it makes you better. This year's installment of the Boone County Bandits are in full practice mode even if the weather hasn't cooperated so far. They have been working in parking lots, batting cages, and warehouses in order to get ready for their first game of the year on March 28th. John and I are pretty excited. PLAY BALL!

Let the slideshow scroll through the photos. Don't click on them or else it will take you to the photo-hosting website.

Blizzard - part 3

A few more photos from last week's blizzard before Spring hits!

Let the Madness begin...

March Madness is among us again and once again, UC is not in the Tourney... All the same, I will still follow it. Here are my initial Bobservations on the brackets:

K-State vs. UCLA - K-State is led by former UC assist. coach Frank Martin who took over when Huggs left. This game will feature former Huggs recruits OJ Mayo and his high school teammate Bill Walker!

W Virginia vs. Arizona - Huggs back in The Dance for the first time since UC lost to UK in his last game as our head coach!Potential Huggs vs Duke in round 2 and if Huggs gets to round 3 (that's a topic of much discussion) he could be facing Xavier!!!!!!

Neither team from last year's title game make it to the field: OSU/Florida. I'm guessing that this is a first.

I hate the play-in game...wouldn't Ohio State vs Andy Kennedy's Ole Miss be a much better game and have them come in as a 12 seed or something? That's the only thing I hate about the Tourney as a playoff system. The rest ROCKS!

For the record: I will be rooting for West Virginia, Duke, Xavier, and anyone whoever Kentucky plays.

Blizzard - part 2

John built a cool tunnel/igloo out of all the snow we shovelled off the
driveway. Here's how it progressed:

Blizzard - part 1

Wow! We really got slammed with this one. Reminds me of the blizzard during January of 1978! Here are the first of a few posts of pics from this most recent "blizz"!

Dhani Harrison...George's son

The late George Harrison's son Dhani has started circulating a video and if you didn't know better you'd swear it was a young George himself. He and a friend (Oli Hecks) have started a band called 'thenewno 2' and this may be the first hint of an album to come. Well see. I think the video is pretty fab.

Go fly a kite...

The early March winds were up a few days ago so we got the kids a couple of kites and Melinda took them to the park and told the kids to go fly a kite. A wonderful Spring-like day but that soon faded and now I'm typing this with flurries on the deck and temps dipping into the teens tonight. Hurry up Spring, eh!

more ice & snow shots

A few more photos taken during the ice storm and snowfall last week. Soon, all this will be a faded memory as Spring is just around the corner! For me, there's nothing more beautiful or refreshing than a freshly-fallen snow or a tree that is covered in ice appearing to be made of crystal. Of course I don't have a very long commute to work either...that would no doubt alter my positive opinion of such weather!
